The Yaesu ATAS-120 Active Tuning Antenna System provides HF/VHF/UHF coverage with automatic motorized tuning. It is the successor to the popular ATAS-100. Utilizing control signals from the transceivers microprocessor received via the coaxial cable, the ATAS-120's internal motor adjusts the radiator length for best SWR. The ATAS-120 covers the 7, 14, 21, 28, 50, 144 and 430 MHz amateur bands and is compatible with the FT-100, FT-847 and FT897.
M type (SO-239) mount is used. This antenna is approximately 5.25 feet high. Triplexer required (not supplied).
For use with the 144 and 440 MHz bands, you may need to purchase a duplexer (FT-897/857/FT-100) or a triplexer (FT-847) to properly connect the antenna to the appropriate antenna jacks on the radio.
The ATAS-120A is designed to mount directly onto a standard mobile antenna mount with a SO-239 connector (mount not included).
Donít use a magnet mount: even if it can support the wind load, itís not going to give the motor a sufficient path to ground.
Whatever mount you use select should be well grounded so the drive motor can operate properly. ie) With the Comet CP-5M, this means insuring the set screws are touching bare metal, not paint.
If you are living in an apartment, townhouse or other location where you do not have space to install an antenna you might consider the ATAS-120 along with the optional ATBK-100 Antenna Base kit. This VHF/UHF counterpoise kit will get you on the air fast.
