--N-8 frequency counter

N-8 handheld frequency counter using two line dot-matrix LCD display. Used to measure the transmitted frequency, CTCSS and DCS of a two way radio. This is very useful if the radio does not display this info.

The counter adopts the inductive measurement without the use of feeders which make the measurement convenient and quick.

Measured freq range: Frequency 1MHz ~ 1000MHz*, all CTCSS, all DCS.
(* Reduced sensitivity above 600 MHz)

LCD Display: 2 line x 8 characters.
Top line : Freq
Bottom Line: CTCSS / DCS info
ie :

     144.0000
     CT:110.9

Operating Current: 46mA current during measurement
Battery: 3) 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries (not included)
Auto power off: 60 seconds
Antenna Connection : SMA Male (needs SMA-Female Antenna - included)
Note: Unit designed to be used with HTs by holding next to transmitting antenna.

Measuring Procedure:

  1. Press the power button (middle) to turn on the counter, put the signal source nearby the counter, the measured frequency will be displayed within 1 second. (Sometimes there is a frequency value on the screen already when the counter power on, that is an interference frequency (RFI). You should press the power button once after put the signal source near the counter, and then the freq value is measured.)
  2. If the signal source has a CTCSS tone, the tone will be showed directly below the transmitted frequency display.
  3. If the signal source has a DCS code, the normal code and the invert code of DCS are simultaneously showed directly below the transmitted frequency display. (The DCS measurement would take one second more time.)
  4. To measure again, press the power button.

Testing measurement results:

To verify the results, press the right 'M' button (right button), the N-8 counter will transmit a low power level signal with a matching tone. Your receiver will hear this (if in simplex mode) so you know that the displayed frequency and tone are correct.

Turning your N-8 Off

Press and hold Middle power button or wait up to 60 seconds for auto power off.
