A big thanks to all our friends and fans for
encouraging us to produce our first CD. It
would be proper to recognize the Minnesota
Bluegrass and Old-time Music Association
(MBOTMA) for all they do for emerging bands.
They provide great listeners, competent critics,
jams and plenty of stages to sharpen your playing
abilities.When I look back, I see a switch from
playing the 100% Honky Tonk Country we
performed in the past, to adding a complement of Bluegrass-influenced
selections and rich harmonies. I must say the MBOTMA group has
influenced us greatly.
I also want to thank our spouses, Randy from GilderSound for helping
us achieve the “string band sound” we wanted, our sponsor “Radio City Inc.”
as well as Sharon Sudman for her voice couching, personal encouragement,
and layout talents.
— Dan Fish, The Now and Then Band founder
THE NOW AND THEN BAND was founded by Dan Fish in 2002.
The primary music performed by the acoustic string band is down-home
country. Content in the early years was based on the many songs of Hank
Williams, Sr., as well as (others of that period) those who influenced him.
The band has slowly added players who each bring their unique musical
styles to songs of those early great country acoustic performers. They favor
the music of early crossover artists and the pre-Nashville sound.
The Now and Then Band add a fresh quality to musical renditions,
from classic to current country music.
The repertoire includes classic cowboy, Carter/Cash songs, Louvin
Brothers, Hank Snow train songs and Bluegrass selections that match the
band’s style. The growing playlist exceeds 100 well-polished songs and they
work hard doing what they enjoy — entertaining.
Harmonies provided by Sheri Stombaugh (Peterson) (fiddle/vocals)
and Dick Lee (bass/vocals) add beauty and depth to Dan’s vocals.
The instrumental support of Dick Hopperstad (dobro/banjo/vocal), as
well as individual vocals
by Dick L. and Sheri
make this a very wellrounded
band indeed.
Since their
band debut at the
MBOTMA Winter
Bluegrass event in
March 2003, they have
been busy bringing
their musical offerings
to many groups.We
look forward to seeing
you at your musical
venue soon.
